Coorg chicken fry

Coorg is a small hill station,a tourist spot situated in Karnataka,close by to Mysore and we have visited that place to the maximum.It is few hours from Mangalore and we have our own lodging too….It is famous for its spices and aromatic coffee powder. I suggest it is one of the must place to visit…Coming back to the dish,I wanted to cook  something dry and ofcourse new recipe and  I found  this recipe in Seema D Shenoy’s page  and the result was very tasty. I’m not sure whether this is the traditional coorg dish but tastewise it was truly good.For more information on coorg refer wiki.






Ingredients to be marinated:
Chicken- 1 kg
Chilly powder-4 tsp
Salt- to taste
Pepper powder- 2 tsp
Turmeric powder- 1 tsp
Ingredients to be roasted:
Khus khus-2 tsp
Coriander seeds- 4 tsp
Cumin seeds-2 tsp
Cinnamon- 1/2 “
Cardamom-4
Oil- 2 tsp
Other Ingredients:
Mustard seeds-1 tsp
Onion-4,chopped lengthwise
Garlic-15,chopped
Ginger-1/2 ” chopped
Oil/ghee-2 tbsp
Tamarind pulp-1/4 cup


Method:

  1. Marinate the chicken with the ingredients mentioned above for 30 minutes.
  2. Roast the ingredients mentioned in the list until light brown in colour, powder it finely and keep it aside.
  3. Heat 2 tbsp oil or ghee ,splutter mustard seeds,fry onion,garlic and ginger until translucent.
  4. Add the marinated chicken and stir fry on high flame without putting the lid.
  5. When half cooked add the roasted powder and the tamarind pulp.
  6. Mix it well and cook further until done.
  7. Garnish with onion rings.
