Pineapple Rasam

I learnt this Rasam 2 years back from my facebook friend Madhukantha Kamath.Today while I was browsing my old albums I found this  and thought of sharing the recipe of this aromatic rasam. I remember I had tried this tempting rasam the minute I  saw Madhus post and it was a super hit at our place.Generally rasam is prepared with tomatoes but the twist in this recipe is Pineapple.Rasam is a South Indian speciality.I do not have much pictures to share today but I will update the post whenever I prepare this rasam again.




Ingredients to be cooked:
Tur dal-1/4 cup,cooked
Tomato-1,chopped and pureed
Pineapple chunks-1/4 cup,cut into chunks
Pineapple puree-1/4 cup
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
Rasam powder-1 1/2 tsp
Green chillies-3-4,slit
Jaggery/sugar-1 tsp
Curry leaves-2 sprigs
Water-3-4 cups approx

Ingredients for the seasoning:
Ghee- 2 tsp
Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds-1/2 tsp
Curry leaves-2 sprigs
Asafoetida powder-a pinch

Method:

  1. Take a deep vessel and cook all the ingredients mentioned under the list to be cooked except pine apple puree.
  2. Take a boil,lower the flame and cook until the pineapple chunks gets cooked.
  3. Lastly add pineapple puree and cook further.
  4. Heat ghee,splutter mustard seeds,add cumin seeds.
  5. Add curry leaves and lastly add hing and turn off the flame.
  6. Season it to the rasam.
  7. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  8. Serve it hot with rice and Papad.
